Impression
A beautiful old hotel in the middle of Amsterdam. This hotel was in earlier times the city hall of Amsterdam. This can be noticed still, by the names of the suites and halls. This hotel has had Michael Jackson and other famous persons as its guests. The hotel has a beautiful courtyard that looks very romantic at night. This hotel can be judged very positive, a minor point is only that it is situated near ‘de wallen’ the prostitutes neighbourhood. This is not very good for little children, but off course you may not care.
reception
The reception was almost as wonderful as the hotel is. You will be treated very friendly, like you expect it to be. All possibilities can be talked about and the most important thing is that the staff knows how you should be treated in a hotel, why they work there and that they are there to serve you.
public areas
The public areas are decorated in style, they look ‘antique’. This gives a finishing touch to the hotel.
rooms
The rooms are beautiful and have all the latest things, totally modern. In the rooms too, the air of an old building welcomes you. The rooms are perfectly fine.
halls
The big hall this hotel has, is the old hall for city council assemblies. In this hall are an old assembly table and the mairs chair. One minor point is that the ceiling is of different heights, this doesn’t make it easy to give a party in this hall. The hall is very dark because of the brown colour of on the walls and ceiling. The hotel has some smaller halls too, where assemblies can take place. All looks very well.
situation
The situation is superb. Only a ten minutes walk and you are on the Dam square. The hotel is situated in the centre of town and everything can be reached easily. For some people it might be a disappointment that the hotel is situated next to the ‘Rozebuurt’, but if you like this it’s no problem. As for a tourist, you haven’t seen Amsterdam if you haven’t seen the ‘Rozebuurt’.
