Impression
By Dutch standards this hotel is a regular skyscraper, which gives it an extra special touch. The view from the bar at the top of the hotel is truly magnificent. The hotel looks excellent from the outside and this is a good indication of what to expect on the inside. Not surprisingly, this hotel is held in high repute not just in Amsterdam but in the whole of the Netherlands.
reception
We were received exactly as guests should be received in a five-star hotel. The staff do not tell you what they want from you but ask you what you want from them. Right from the start, we noticed the Japanese influences in this hotel. It is part of the well-known Okura chain in Japan and is the only Japanese hotel in the Netherlands. For this reason, many of the guests staying here are from the Far East.
public areas
The public areas are excellent and fitted out with all modern conveniences, especially when it comes to internet connections and the like. In these areas the Japanese influences are also very noticeable. We observed that the public areas, including the lounge, are often used for short business meetings. The bar at the top of the hotel is a truly unique part of the public areas. The view is breath-taking and it is because of this that so many marriage proposals take place here. In short, the public areas are perfect down to the last detail.
rooms
The rooms are beautifully furnished and they all have a Japanese touch. For instance, the doors of the television cabinet were copies of doors we know from Japan. The view from the rooms is also magnificent. Because the hotel is square-shaped, all the rooms have a nice view of the city. The only downside we could discover is that the passageways to the bathrooms seem to be custom-made for Japanese people, which means that most Westerners, being a little more well-built, will have a very hard time fitting through.
halls
The rooms are terrific. They were finished not long before our visit and they are very modern indeed. For example, the modern chandeliers can be lowered to create more atmosphere and the walls are fitted out with sound-deadening material so you will not hear a thing if there is a party going on next door. The rooms are spacious, ideal for very large groups, and can be used for both business and pleasure purposes.
situation
The location of the hotel is not ideal if you intend to visit Amsterdam’s popular tourist attractions. On the other hand, the Rai Congress Center is only a ten-minute walk away. Besides, the tram stops very close to the hotel and anything in Amsterdam can easily be reached by taxi.
