Impression
An extremely ugly hotel in the center of Amsterdam. The neighborhood is one in which you would not want to find yourself at night, or during the day for that matter, as it is crawling with everything from junkies to prostitutes. The cheap Crown Plaza feeling immediately surfaces, and the entrance is simply too horrible to mention.
reception
The reception is as horrible as the hotel itself. The personnel clearly see their work as nothing more than paid employment, and they have no intention whatsoever of doing the customer a favor. Once you are inside, you have to accustom yourself to the extremely poor standards of living in this hotel, as good service is the last thing you can expect here.
public areas
The public areas are almost too horrible to describe. They are old and often dirty, and in most parts of the hotel it stinks of urine. Not to mention that many of the guests clearly do not belong in a five-star hotel. The hotel manager told us that this is because the hotel often has to lower its prices considerably in order to attract customers. We would recommend closing the hotel for a year, investing a lot of money in it in order to turn it into a real five-star hotel, and then reopening.
rooms
We can be brief about the rooms because they are even worse than those of the cheapest Holiday Inn. In a number of rooms the air conditioning actually brings the smell of urine into the room. They are also very poorly furnished and do not meet any of the requirements a five-star hotel should meet.
halls
The hotel does not have any conference rooms and we feel this is a good thing, because entertaining guests in a room that smells of urine is the last thing you need.
situation
The location is nice if you want to be close to Dam Square or Central Station. Considering the many problems caused by junkies and sex tourism, we would not recommend bringing your children here. But if you are determined to stay in this area of Amsterdam, you could just as well book a four-star hotel for the same price, or less, and actually get one’s money’s worth.
