Impression
The hotel makes an overwhelming impression once you’ve entered it. You can’t see this is a hotel on the outside. The first thing you think of this building is it being a fancy house. From a closer look you might think this is a sexclub. Especially in the evening when the light outside is on and the lamp in the golden plate with the name of the hotel is on. However this isn’t rightfully for this hotel. The hotel was built in an old ditches building. When you look closely at the floors of the hotel, you can see that this were different apartments. After being inside, you understand the value of such a hotel on this location.

reception
The reception is very personnel, just like the hotel is. After normal working hours there is a night porter who is the night cook, but also a servant, a receptionist and a bellboy. This is what makes this hotel great. It is so little with its nine rooms, that it doesn’t have to become bigger. The lobby was once the living room and still functions as one. The lobby is furnitured just like a living room, with big chairs, a fireplace and pictures on the sideboard. You get a warm feeling when you arrive and not just because of the staff.

public areas
The public areas are cosy decorated. In the basement is a nice restaurant, furnitured for the three main meals of the day. The hotel hasn’t got an elevator just one staircase that guests as well as the staff must use. The corridors and the staircase are nicely decorated with pictures everywhere. This gives you the warm feeling again. The public areas are maintained well and fit in to the hotel.

rooms
The rooms are suites, one by one. The rooms are very spacious and have all the things you expect them to have in a 5 star hotel. They are decorated in the air of the hotel in order to keep unity. Wooden brays hold the ceiling and the boards under your feet crack when you walk. The bathrooms are beautiful and freshly decorated and also have everything you need. Every room is different and they don’t all give a view on the Prinsengracht. There is a room in the formal garden house and is only used when the hotel is full and a guest is looking for a room. There is nothing wrong with this room, but you have to walk through the garden when you want to go for breakfast, in the winter as well what might be unpleasant.

halls
This hotel doesn’t have any halls. They have the basement for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but not more than twenty people fit in here. So unfortunately they don’t have halls, but because of this it isn’t very crowded in the hotel. Everyone can enjoy his rest here in the centre of Amsterdam.

situation
The situation is fantastic. It lies on the Prinsengracht, right where it crosses the ‘Leidsestraat’. The ‘Leidsestraat’, after the ‘Kalverstraat’ the most famous street in Amsterdam, has got lots of trendy shops and restaurants. It just behind the ‘Leidseplein’, the famous square with lots of bars and clubs. The ‘Leidseplein’ is a five-minute walk, but the ‘Rembrandtsplein’, the ‘flower market’ and the ‘Kalvertoren’ can all be reached within a fifteen minutes walk. Public transport can be used easily here, there are lots of trams, which is good, because parking is expensive and searching for a parking spot is even harder. Parking an hour costs about €3,80, which is a bit expensive, and finding a parking spot is a big difficulty.
